Greetings...
It seems fitting today, to share this poem about the historic attack on our neighbours on September 11, 2001. It still holds true: "justice denied anywhere, diminishes justice everywhere" (MLK). With threats all around the world, the reckoning persists.... REMEMBERING NINE-ELEVEN In ‘the city that never sleeps’ / On a normal Tuesday morning There came a despotic assault / Suddenly, and without warning Trigger the sirens, blow the horns / Our nation is under attack Let’s mobilize, into the fray / Forward comrades, we won’t turn back Until we douse the raging flames / And arrest the sickening draft The twin towers, impaled this hour / Set ablaze by terrorist crafts From this affront, we won’t cower / We’re trained to rescue and protect Helping trapped victims to escape / Several thousands we suspect The stampede, the chaos, stifling / The scorching heat, the shrilling cries Such hellishness out of control / As plumes darken the sunny skies Hearing desperate, fainting screams / We make advances at all cost Brave souls defying frightful odds / So, fewest civilians are lost We battle hard the hungry fire / Go climbing up with blinded sight The steel skyscrapers imploding / Meant some crewmates fought their last fight Scores of our peers are swallowed fast / In multiplying fiery traps Others weakened by the carnage / Emerge in ash from the collapse It’s simply mayhem all around / The world tuned in is shocked to see Thousands burned alive within the / New holocaust this century With attacks elsewhere aborted / We salute all who braved the day So too, we honour souls now gone / And for those left behind, we pray We’ll recover from this slaughter / Also for justice ever fight Standing on the rock of freedom / As joy comes with the new dawn’s light © 2024 - David A.
