Good day...
Looking back at the past week, among other things, it's apparent that we continue to be dogged and scarred by institutional discrimination, for example in law enforcement and politics. From the perspective of mistreated minorities, I pivot to the last two verses of "Blatant Bigotry: Green Book to the Rescue"..... ....Some folks don’t seem to understand / What the hubbub is all about The injustice plainly rampant / Not only in the sunny south Shows where scorn, in serpentine ways / Has bound the human mind and heart There comes a cawing mockery / As right thinking just falls apart So, we’ll march and fight for freedom / We won’t yield to vile oppression Strange how our rights are overlooked / Though penned in the Constitution In beauty, we too for ourselves / Dance on to songs of victory The lasting theme: let justice rule / And end this blatant bigotry #prejudice #discrimination #bigotry Greetings...
It seems fitting today, to share this poem about the historic attack on our neighbours on September 11, 2001. It still holds true: "justice denied anywhere, diminishes justice everywhere" (MLK). With threats all around the world, the reckoning persists.... REMEMBERING NINE-ELEVEN In ‘the city that never sleeps’ / On a normal Tuesday morning There came a despotic assault / Suddenly, and without warning Trigger the sirens, blow the horns / Our nation is under attack Let’s mobilize, into the fray / Forward comrades, we won’t turn back Until we douse the raging flames / And arrest the sickening draft The twin towers, impaled this hour / Set ablaze by terrorist crafts From this affront, we won’t cower / We’re trained to rescue and protect Helping trapped victims to escape / Several thousands we suspect The stampede, the chaos, stifling / The scorching heat, the shrilling cries Such hellishness out of control / As plumes darken the sunny skies Hearing desperate, fainting screams / We make advances at all cost Brave souls defying frightful odds / So, fewest civilians are lost We battle hard the hungry fire / Go climbing up with blinded sight The steel skyscrapers imploding / Meant some crewmates fought their last fight Scores of our peers are swallowed fast / In multiplying fiery traps Others weakened by the carnage / Emerge in ash from the collapse It’s simply mayhem all around / The world tuned in is shocked to see Thousands burned alive within the / New holocaust this century With attacks elsewhere aborted / We salute all who braved the day So too, we honour souls now gone / And for those left behind, we pray We’ll recover from this slaughter / Also for justice ever fight Standing on the rock of freedom / As joy comes with the new dawn’s light © 2024 - David A. On the mountain top, souls jubilate in enrichment In the valley, souls are restored #celebration #achievement #restoration Greetings. The new school year is upon us, signifying the unofficial end of Summer. Happy New Year to everyone in the education sector.
Looking back, what a summer this has been! I am thankful for many things about the season, especially having reconnected with friends in decades-old relationships. How was the summertime for you? What's one things about Summer 2024 for which you are thankful? If you could go back and change one thing, what would that be? As you reflect, here is the latter portion of "Summer Sonnet": SUMMER SONNET ......In moments of musing, passion made strong; rejuvenation at forefront of mind The breeze of the season carries love’s song, for friendships budding and ones redefined This period of warmth enlivens earth and soul; a welcome feast that is always too brief There is respite from life’s challenging toll, we’re truly blessed by the season’s relief To seasonal shifting we must resign, such cycles bring many changes quite clear Fresh memories with chance to realign, in expectation of summer next year #summer #seasons #gratitude Greetings. Wishing you a terrific day, and sharing this simple truth:
Those who seek power and control To retain antiquated ideas Most often behave like little men #expiration #currency #power Good day... Wishing you a Happy September! Today's Blog is the title poem below...
WHAT DO YOU HEAR? What’s it that you most often hear During your moments of stillness? Is it a nagging, heckling voice Or the deep hushes of calmness? How well do you really listen To discern all the truthful things That surface in your time alone As potent, healing offerings? Per chance, have you long forgotten How stillness actually feels Caught in the frantic pace of life Spinning fast on multiple wheels? Slow down, seek first, the Great Divine So, added wisdom grows inside To relax in the sound of silence Says that your needs are satisfied #stillness #calm #rebirth Happy day.
Looking over the past week, a highlight has definitely been the Book Launch on August 24. Many thanks to all supporters for this gratifying and humbling experience. Interestingly, while I have been writing poetry for many years, there was no grand plan to publish a book. Well... the stars aligned and “Let’s Do Lemonade” was birthed. Here, I am reminded of the importance or openness, optimism and perseverance - to contribute thoughtfully to the world, using our gifts and talents. Indeed, this all speaks to readiness, to seize the opportunities that come our way as we seek to make a positive difference. With appreciation, I close citing the following lines from the poem “Where Do I Go”: “Change is never far away / For what is truly mine / Always arrives at just the right time”. All the best as you "do lemonade". #booklaunch #gratitude #letsdolemonade Greetings... Wishing you a wonderful day, with this simple reminder:
