Flashback Friday: Thankful and Hopeful

Greetings...
I am forever thankful that I live in a democratic nation state, and for the people of all stripes who steadfastly 'stand on guard' to avert threats and to promote our stability and progress in constructive, sustainable ways.
This week, I tuned in repeatedly to proceedings in the House of Commons and I shake my head at the pettiness, personal attacks, mudslinging and other forms of gimmickry and folly being modelled across the aisle. Consequently, I am now composing a poem about the apparent decline (perhaps a new low)  in general political leadership. And as I reflect, I stay hopeful to see better for our nation in every sense of the word.
